The important thing to remember about 2021 is high media prominence. This year was not easy for journalism in general. However, it is worth noting the triumphs in journalism: both global ones (when journalists became 2021 Nobel Peace Prize Laureates!) and regional ones (for the first time, a news agency from Central Asia became a winner along with such giants of the global media sphere as Reuters and The New York Times).

IWPR Central Asia continued its activities within the framework of its mission. The hybrid format allowed us to reach an even larger audience.
This year, we held the first regional Podcast Festival, created our online community, held another offline School of Analytics, and most importantly, launched a new project – Go Viral.

There were timely analytics, training, new courses, documentaries, festivals, meetups, journalistic labs, and much more. We present the annual digest of online (and not only) CABAR.asia events of 2021.

Expert Meetings
During the regional and international expert meetings held regularly by IWPR CA, we discussed a wide range of issues: from the problems of region's security in its various aspects (military aspect, borders and conflicts issues, food and information security in Central Asia) and human rights to the issues of transnational repression, and the prospects for the civil society development, including the problems it faced during the pandemic.

In addition, special attention was devoted to the discussion of the problems of water resources in the region, migration, and new demographic trends in Central Asia affecting the further development of the region in the coming decades.

We have teamed up to create and produce quality content, improve the already available content, grow professionally as content makers, and develop our personal branding. We want to grow into a large community of like-minded people – content creators who implement joint cross-regional projects.
