Turkmenistan: Heat kills people
In June 2021, Turkmenistan faced abnormal heat wave, which caused the rise in mortality in the regions.
According to some specialised outlets, some regions of Turkmenistan had the hottest June in the last 127 years.

On June 5, 2021, the temperature of the air in the second largest city – Turkmenabad (administrative centre of Lebap velayat, former Chardzhou, located 470 km north-eastward of Ashgabat) reached +45,1 Celsius degrees, which was the absolute temperature peak in June among all weather observations since 1894.
According to Azatkhabar, the Turkmen service of Radio Liberty, heat-related deaths increased. According to it, in early June the sudden warming in Mary velayat led to rising death rates. The number of funerals on Khodzhayusup Baba graveyard in Bairamali etrap of Mary velayat increased significantly in the last ten days.

No such number of deaths occurred just a month ago, according to respondents. According to them, 10-12 people get buried in average on this graveyard every day, and the age of the deceased is 40 to 50.

According to World Bank's specialised portal on climate change, the average annual temperature has increased by 1.4°С since the 1950s in Turkmenistan.

In 1961-1990, the average temperature in July was +29.3 °C, while in 1991-2020 it was +30.1°C.
According to NASA, the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, faced the record high temperature +47.2°C in 2015, whereas in Tedzhen the temperature exceeded +40°C in March 2018.
